Our Stories, Our Keepers: How Curators & Writers Bring Our Heritage to Life

Every Antiguan and Barbudan has a story that deserves to be told. Yet, not everyone is a natural-born writer, has the time, or is comfortable using technology to build their own profile. We risk losing the priceless journeys of our elders and the wisdom of our community leaders simply because the "blank page" is too intimidating

This is where our most valuable community champions step in: the ABHDS Curators and Writers. They are the story-keepers, the listeners, and the scribes dedicated to ensuring no story is left behind

Giving Voice to Every Generation

Curators and writers bridge the gap between memory and legacy. They help our members share their stories in two powerful ways:

  1. As a CURATOR: The ABHDS platform has a special "Curator" function. With permission, a curator can create and manage a profile for someone else. This is perfect for:
    • Honouring Elders: You can sit down with a grandparent, parent, or community elder, listen to their oral history, and build their complete ABHDS Bio for them, capturing their voice and their journey
    • Documenting History: Curators can create profiles for notable historical figures from Antigua and Barbuda, enriching the platform with foundational content.
    • Assisting the Busy A busy professional might give a curator the key points of their career, which the curator can then craft into a full profile.
  2. As a WRITER: Many users start their profile but get stuck. A volunteer writer acts as a "story partner." You can connect with a member, help them outline their thoughts using the "Bio Starter Kit," or edit their draft to make it compelling, clear, and powerful. You help transform simple notes into a beautiful, flowing narrative.

What's in it for You? The Rewards of Being a Story Keeper

Helping others tell their story is deeply rewarding, and ABHDS is committed to recognizing your contribution:

  • You Preserve a Legacy: This is the most profound reward. You become a direct agent of cultural preservation. When you interview an elder, you are saving a unique, irreplaceable history from being lost to time.
  • You Gain Visibility and Credibility: Curators and writers will receive an official badge on their ABHDS profile, identifying them as a trusted community partner. We will actively feature our most dedicated curators in newsletters and on the platform's homepage.
  • You Build Your Portfolio: For aspiring writers, journalists, genealogists, or historians, every profile you craft is a published piece of meaningful work. It's a tangible way to build your portfolio while making a real impact.
  • You Deepen Your Connections: You will connect on a profound level with the individuals you interview, gaining wisdom and forming bonds. You'll also join an exclusive network of other like-minded curators and writers.
